Use the following formula to calculate your body fat percentage: BF% = (total body weight - LBM) / total body weight. Multiply the result by 100 to get your body fat percentage. Record your body fat percentage on a piece of paper for later use.

Determine your body fat category

Use the following chart to determine your body fat category based on your age and gender:

Men:

  • Age 17-26: 18%
  • Age 27-39: 19%
  • Age 40-45: 21%
  • Age 46 and above: 22%

Women:

  • Age 17-26: 26%
  • Age 27-39: 27%
  • Age 40-45: 29%
  • Age 46 and above: 30%
